[LET SCI - 1] Co-evolution of Human Capabilities and Intelligent Technologies
by Ha Pham (Alice) from Vietnam
Today I watch the video named "Co-evolution of Human Capabilities and Intelligent Technologies" from Sanna Jarvela in University of Oulu. This video is a part of the course LET scientific grouding, Week 1. Our assignment is to watch this and express our thoughts about it.
1. My understandings:
The talking contains 3 parts which are: skills and competences needed for future; how human sciences can shape digitalisation and new culture of education.
- The first part - skills and competences needed for future mentions 4 skills which are: adapt in a new situation; social skills like communication and collaboration; socio-emotional skills and finally the ability to take initiative set goals and monitor our learning.
- The second part - human sciences shape digitalisation is quite short. It emphasizes the importance of changing our usual understanding of the relationship between human and sciences. It's not how human react or use tech but about the co-evolution in which human plays a vital role.
- The last part - new culture of education refers to 5 elements: ambitious learning practices, collaborative learning, socially shared regulation in learning, advanced learning technology and AI&adaptive learning support.
2. My comments and feelings:
Firstly, the video is useful and well-structured.
It refers to the very current, trendy topics and also my biggest concerns throughout recent years in my career: human learning. From the very first slides, I see the idea that emphasizes the significance of learning in creating a happy, satisfactory life, it shapes our mind and our destiny as well. So it needs to be taken seriously and that's the reason we spend time on all these together. Moreover, the points are presented in a logical order, provided by brief explanations which makes them easy enough to follow.
Secondly, I am thankful for knowing 2 new things after watching the video. They are: (1) why collaborative learning is important but also need to be carefully implemented in practices; (2) the aim of us is not to adapt with digital life but work on it, create it, participate in it to make co-evolution. The conclusion of the video is optimistic, we can still hope for a rewarding and meaningful life even when technologies are bringing more and more challenges to our lives.
Finally, a special appreciation to the video in the end of Sanna's presentation. Very mind-blowing and inspiring. It helps me understand more about a part in the university's researches. I acknowledge that this part plays a vital role. We need to keep the ideas recommended by this video in mind to be able to deeply understand the concepts given in LET programme in the future time.
